Celtic manager Brendan Rodgers is delighted that midfielder Matt O’Reilly will finally be able to move to the Premier League and the club will finally have an end to their saga.
Rodgers, who is preparing Celtic for Sunday’s Scottish Premiership trip to St Mirren, admitted O’Reilly’s move to Brighton & Hove Albion was “normal” and in line with the club’s plans.
O’Reilly is no longer in Celtic’s squad after travelling to Brighton to undergo a medical after the two clubs agreed a fee for the Denmark midfielder which will be complete at £30m including add-ons.
“He’s going to Brighton for a medical, that move ยูฟ่าเบท should happen in the next few days,” Rodgers said of the 23-year-old ahead of the trip to St Mirren.
“He did a great job last year. He gave everything for the team and the club. Even on the last day he played, he worked extra hard. That shows his commitment.”
“I would like to congratulate Matt on his move to the Premier League and for us to move on, that’s the way the club operates,” Rodgers said.
The fee could constitute a Celtic and Scottish record transfer sum as the Scottish champions were insisting on surpassing the fees paid by Al-Ittihad for Jota last summer and for Kieran Tierney’s £25m switch to Arsenal in 2019.
It means Celtic stand to make a huge profit on the London-born player, who joined for a fee believed to be £1.5m and is under contract until May 2027.
